Google Business Profile for Restaurants: Setup and Optimization Guide
How to set up, verify and keep your restaurant’s Google Business Profile accurate and appealing — step by step.

When someone searches for your restaurant by name — or for food nearby — Google often shows your Business Profile before your website. It’s where people check your hours, look at photos, read reviews and tap to call, get directions or order. A complete, current profile is one of the highest-value things you can maintain.
Get set up
- Search for your restaurant on Google Maps. If a profile exists, choose “Claim this business”; otherwise add it.
- Verify ownership using the method Google offers (it varies by business).
- Invite a trusted manager as an additional owner or manager so you’re never locked out.
Fill in every relevant field
- Categories: one precise primary category and a few accurate secondary ones.
- Hours: regular hours, plus special hours for holidays and closures.
- Menu link and online ordering link — use your direct ordering page where possible.
- Description: a short, honest summary of what makes you worth visiting.
- Attributes: dine-in, takeout, delivery, outdoor seating, accessibility and more.
Photos that help people choose
Upload your own photos regularly: signature dishes in natural light, the dining room at its best, the exterior so people recognize you, and your team. Avoid heavy filters. Fresh photos signal that you’re open and active.
Use posts for timely news
Google posts are short updates — a seasonal dish, an event, holiday hours. They’re quick to publish and give searchers a reason to choose you today.
Reply to reviews
Thank people for positive reviews and respond calmly to negative ones. Future guests read your replies as much as the reviews themselves. See our guide on responding to reviews for templates.
Keep it accurate
Check your profile monthly. Anyone can suggest edits to public listings, so make sure your hours, phone and links haven’t been changed without your knowledge.
